The Arc of Dreams Downtown Sioux Falls

There’s something magical about photographing at the Arc of Dreams in downtown Sioux Falls. Every time I walk up to this massive stainless-steel sculpture, I’m reminded of why it’s such a favorite backdrop for photos—it’s bold, modern, and full of meaning.

Recently, I had the chance to shoot a session there, and it honestly felt like the Arc was telling its own story right alongside my clients’. With the Big Sioux River flowing below and the city skyline surrounding us, it’s hard not to feel inspired.

The Story Behind the Arc

The Arc of Dreams stretches an incredible 300 feet across the river, with a 15-foot gap in the middle symbolizing a “leap of faith.” To me, that gap feels like the perfect metaphor for so many of life’s moments—falling in love, starting a new chapter, or chasing your dreams. Capturing portraits beneath it adds layers of meaning you just can’t find anywhere else.

Shooting Under the Arc

During this session, I played with different angles and lighting to highlight both my clients and the sculpture’s dramatic presence.

I just shot on a cloudy/rainy day, the sculpture becomes the star, giving portraits a moody, editorial vibe.

I loved asking my couple to dance beneath the Arc, letting their laughter and movement fill the frame. For me, it wasn’t just about the photos—it was about capturing the feeling of being in that moment, surrounded by something bigger than all of us.
